Wichita State is well-positioned for its inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference. All five starters and the top eight scorers are back from a team that finished 31-5 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last spring.

Sophomore Landry Shamet and junior Markis McDuffie were first team all-conference selections, while Conner Frankamp and Shaquille Morris (both third team picks) are part of a core of six seniors who all averaged at least five points and 14 minutes in 2017. Senior Zach Brown is a two-year starter and defensive stopper. Along with Morris, senior big men Rashard Kelly, Rauno Nurger and Darral Willis Jr. form the nucleus of a Shocker front court that ranked second nationally in rebound margin (+9.0) last year.

Gregg Marshall (261-90 through 10 seasons at Wichita State) is poised to become the school's all-time leader in games coached. The Maui opener will be his 354th on the Shocker bench.

The Shockers open the Tournament on Nov. 20 against Cal at 4 p.m. CT. The game will be televised by ESPN2
