On March 3, the North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team was presented with their student-designed surfboard to celebrate their upcoming appearance in the 2020 Maui Jim Maui Invitational.
During the first timeout in the first half of the contest against Wake Forest, the surfboard was displayed at center court by Rameses in front of a sold-out senior night crowd of 21,280.
About UNC and the Maui Jim Maui Invitational: The Tar Heels will make their eighth appearance in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational this November, which will be the most all-time for a non-host team. UNC also holds a 20-3 all-time record in the Tournament, which is the most wins held by any participating team.
The 2020 Surfboard Tour continued in North Carolina as the Davidson Wildcats men's basketball team were presented with their commemorative surfboard on March 6 during their game against VCU.
A crowd of 3,763 saw Davidson's surfboard, adorned with a tropical design appropriate for the beaches of Maui, presented at center court during the under-8 media timeout of the first half. The board was presented to a group of Davidson Cheerleaders alongside their mascot, Mr. Cat.
Davidson will be back in the tournament for the first time since their appearance in the inaugural Tournament field.
About Davidson and the Maui Jim Maui Invitational: The Wildcats will make their second appearance in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational this November. Davidson holds a 0-2 all-time record in the Tournament, and were part of the inaugural 1984 field.
2020 Maui Jim Maui Invitational Field: The 2020 Maui Jim Maui Invitational teams include Alabama, Davidson, Indiana, North Carolina, Providence, Stanford, Texas, and UNLV. The programs heading out to Maui in 2020 boast a combined six Tournament titles, led by North Carolina's four championships. Providence owns the first-ever Tournament championship from 1984, and both the Friars and the Davidson Wildcats were members of the inaugural Tournament field. Indiana, North Carolina, and Texas rank in the top-20 all-time winningest programs. Davidson, Indiana, North Carolina, Providence, and Texas each own at least two NCAA Tournament appearances since 2015.
