Throughout the history of the Southwest Maui Invitational, there have been 45 individuals and one entire team (Iowa, 1987) named the Dr. Sue Wesselkamper Most Valuable Player.
Dr. Sue Wesselkamper was the President of Chaminade University from 1995-2008. She helped raise the profile of the Honolulu-based university and respectability among institutions of learning worldwide. With her leadership, Dr. Sue helped turn a school that, while small in size, can compete academically and athletically with the best colleges in the nation. Dr. Sue was the Most Valuable Player for Chaminade University throughout her tenure there. Therefore, it is only appropriate to name this prestigious award in honor of her.
