Sunday's EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Opening Games Results

Pittsbugh, Arizona earn Sunday victories

Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon and Samford head coach Scott Padgett.

Pittsburgh 63, Samford 56
After nearly 13 minutes the Panthers trailed by five points, but finished the first half on an 18-3 run and held on for a 63-56 victory over the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon in the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Opening Games. Sophomore forward Michael Young led Pittsburgh, scoring a career-high 20 points, while Jamel Artis added 12 for the Panthers in the win. 

Samford's Tyler Hood kept the Bulldogs in the game, going 6 of 10 from the three-point line, scoring 21 points. 
Michael Bradley added 10 points and posted a game-high eight rebounds.
 
Hood's three-pointer early in the second half pulled Samford to within three, but with Young and Artis combing for 24 second-half points, the Panthers held on for their second victory of the season.

Arizona 86, CSUN 68
With four Wildcats finishing in double figures, Arizona built a 15-point halftime lead on its way to an 86-68 victory over the CSUN Matadors Sunday night in the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Opening Games. Stanley Johnson led the way in the win for the Wildcats with 17 points..

In addition to Johnson, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (14 points), Brandon Ashley (13 points) and Elliot Pitts (10 points) also finished in double-figures. T.J. McConnell added seven points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the AP/USA Today preseason No. 2 Wildcats. 

Stephen Maxwell scored a game-high 19 points for the Matadors, while teammate Aaron Parks added 15 points in the loss.
