Second-year head coach Brad Underwood welcomes a bevy of talented newcomers to the Illini roster, ushering in the youngest team he's seen since his junior college coaching days.

The freshman class includes plenty of notables, like five-star guard Ayo Dosunmu, who recently helped the U.S. national team win a gold medal at the FIBA America U18 Championships. Tevian Jones, a top-100 recruit out of California who averaged 20.5 PPG last year, will strengthen the backcourt alongside Alan Griffin, a long-range shooter who led Archbishop Stepinac to its first-ever New York state Federation championship.

Rounding out the rookie class is the promising 7-footer Samba Kane, skilled European forward Giorgi Bezhanishvili, and Anthony Higgs, who helped lead Baltimore's Perry Hall to back-to-back state titles.

The Fighting Illini welcome back Trent Frazier, the team's lead returning scorer who shot 35 percent from three-point range. Kipper Nichols, the team's top returning rebounder, netted double figures last season after making a strong emergence in conference play.

The team's lone four-year player, Aaron Jordan, returns to the roster following a breakout season where he ranked third in the Big Ten in 3-point shooting.

Prior to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, the Illini will take part in Maui on the Mainland when they face off against Evansville Nov. 8.

Illinois will begin its run in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational on Nov. 19 at 10:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. HT) against Gonzaga. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
