MAUI, Hawaii (Nov. 23, 2022) -
Ohio State (5-1) outlasted
Texas Tech (4-2) 80-73 in the
Maui Jim Maui Invitational's fifth-place game.
Led by Hawaii-native Justice Sueing's explosive 33 points in 31 minutes, the Buckeye offense outscored Texas Tech in each half and didn't miss a single free throw the entire game. Their eight three-pointers and 26 rebounds helped to keep Texas Tech from taking the lead after the game's first 3:34. Sean McNeil added 13 points, the second most for Ohio State.
The Red Raiders saw impressive performances from Kevin Obanor (19 points) and Daniel Batcho (21 points) but their inability to contain Sueing's career-high performance left them playing catchup for most of the game. Although both teams shot well from the field (Ohio State 52%, Texas Tech 51%), it was the Buckeye's three-point efficiency (40% compared to Texas Tech's 28%) that stood out as the difference maker.
