MAUI, Hawaii (Nov. 21, 2022) – Matt Bradley scored 18 points and Lamont Butler added 15, as the
San Diego State Aztecs (4-0) beat the
Ohio State Buckeyes (3-1) in game three of the
Maui Invitational by a comfortable margin of 88-77.
The Aztecs jumped out to an early first half lead (37-26) and matched the Buckeye's offensive output in the second half (51-51) to roll to victory. Ohio State made things interesting in the second half, cutting the San Diego State lead to four near the midway point of the second half, but the veteran Aztecs pulled away on the back of eight points in 51 seconds.
San Diego State made 10-of-21 three pointers (compared to Ohio State's 7-of-22), outrebounded the Buckeyes 37 to 34, and saw a field goal percentage just north of 50 percent.
Ohio State made 14-of-15 free throws and saw a game-leading 22 points from Sean McNeil. Bruce Thornton fouled out but managed to collect 13 points and three assists for the Buckeyes in 25 minutes of action.
