On February 28, the Butler Bulldogs were presented with their commemorative custom surfboard to celebrate their upcoming participation in the 2021 Maui Jim Maui Invitational during their game against Villanova. This year's surfboard was part of the 2021 Surfboard Design Contest, featuring designs from students at each of the participating schools.
The 8-foot surfboard featured designs by former student, Anna Gerlach, who was able to see the her design brought to life at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday.
Butler head coach LaVall Jordan will be making his first all-time appearance as head coach in the tournament. Coach Jordan joined the Michigan Wolverines as an assistant coach in 2011 under John Beilein.
About Butler and the Maui Jim Maui Invitational: The Bulldogs will make their second appearance in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational this November, following their inaugural appearance in 2012.
2021 Maui Jim Maui Invitational Field: The 2021 Maui Jim Maui Invitational teams include Butler, Chaminade, Houston, Notre Dame, Oregon, Saint Mary's, Texas A&M and Wisconsin. The programs heading out to Maui in 2021 boast a combined 16 Tournament appearances and two National Championship titles. Notre Dame holds the spot as the only returning Tournament champion in the 2021 field from their win over Wichita State in 2017 and ranks in the top-20 all-time winningest programs. Butler, Notre Dame, Oregon, Saint Mary's, Texas A&M and Wisconsin each own at least two NCAA Tournament appearances since 2015.
