Maui Jim Maui Invitational Announces 2018 Mainland Schedule

MAUI, HAWAII (September 25, 2018) – The Maui Jim Maui Invitational today announced its mainland schedule, including games for the Chaminade Silverswords against San Diego State and Arizona on the U.S. mainland.

The games begin on November 1 with the Silverswords taking on San Diego State, followed by a matchup against Arizona on November 4 to kick off the 2018-19 campaign.

"These games against San Diego State and Arizona are going to be incredible opportunities for our players and our program," Chaminade head coach Eric Bovaird said. "It's not often Division II programs have the chance to play against high-major programs that are NCAA Tournament regulars and have championship pedigrees. Both of these teams have incredible tradition and I'm really looking forward to these games and seeing how our team responds in what will be exciting environments.

"I know our players will be ready to test themselves against great competition in front of the largest crowds they've probably ever seen. Much like our games have been against Division I opponents over the years, the experience of playing against high-level competition will be very important for us as we start the new season."

Chaminade contests and the rest of the mainland schedule will help usher in the start of the 2018-19 college basketball season. The complete mainland schedule includes:

November 1 – Chaminade at San Diego State
November 4 – Chaminade at Arizona
November 8 – Evansville at Illinois
November 10 – Texas Southern at Gonzaga
November 10 – Evansville at Xavier
November 12 – Texas Southern at Iowa State
November 14 – Texas Southern at San Diego State
November 15 – Kentucky Wesleyan at Evansville
November 18 – Texas Southern at Evansville

About the Maui Jim Maui Invitational
In December 1982, then No. 1 ranked Virginia, led by National College Player of the Year Ralph Sampson, played little-known NAIA Chaminade University in Honolulu while on the way back from a trip to Tokyo. The Silverswords stunned Virginia 77-72 in one of the greatest upsets in college basketball history. Two years later, in 1984, Chaminade University hosted the first Maui Invitational and it has proven to be the premier early-season college basketball tournament for 34 years running. Each year, the Maui Jim Maui Invitational attracts the top programs, best-known coaches and most outstanding players to compete in an exciting atmosphere at the Lahaina Civic Center near the beautiful beaches of Maui.
