Illinois used their aggressive and unique style of play to climb out of the first half hole that they dug themselves into. Gonzaga proved to be too much, closing out the game by a final score of 84-78.
Gonzaga's leading scorer, Rui Hachimura carried the load for the Bulldogs. Illinois mounted a 10-0 comeback late in the second half, but was unable to close it out.
For Illinois, the resilience was a good sign for Brad Underwood's squad, who showed heart and hustle in their third game of the young season.
