Auburn continued its defensive prowess during the opening round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The Tigers shot 45.5 percent from the field, compared to 39.3 percent for the Musketeers.
Both teams struggled to score in the first half. Jared Harper shot three for five in the early going, finishing the game with 9 for 17. Nine of his points came from behind the arc. The point guard committed two fouls and four turnovers in the first half, but took care of the basketball in the second half, ending the game with five total turnovers.
Auburn was able to convert 31 points off of turnovers, compared to 10 for Xavier, who turned the ball over a whopping 22 times.
Xavier was able to force the game to OT, but Auburn's staunch defense was too much for Xavier, who moved to 2-2 overall in this young season.
