CHICAGO, Ill. (Feb. 10, 2016) – Dave Odom, a three-time Conference Coach of the Year at Wake Forest and current Tournament Chairman of the
Maui Jim Maui Invitational, was recently named to the
Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball
Legends Class of 2016. The recognition cements Odom's place among the all-time basketball legends of the ACC, which began honoring top coaches and players from each conference school in 2010.
Odom is the only head coach among the 15-member Class of 2016. He led
Wake Forest to eight NCAA Tournament appearances in 12 seasons as head coach, averaging 20 wins a season during his tenure. He was named ACC Coach of the Year in 1991, 1994 and 1995, and garnered National Coach of the Year accolades following the 1995 campaign, in which the team, led by future NBA All-Star Tim Duncan, finished 26-6. Odom led the Demon Deacons to conference tournament championships in 1995 and 1996.
"Dave Odom is truly a legend in the game of college basketball in every sense of the word," said
Steve Skinner, CEO of
KemperLesnik, which operates the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. "There is not a person more deserving of receiving this honor from the ACC. College basketball, the Maui Jim Maui Invitational and KemperLesnik are fortunate to have him on our teams."
Following his coaching career, Odom transitioned into his current role as Tournament Chairman of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. As chairman, Odom helps bring the nation's most talented teams, coaches and players to Maui for the nation's premier early season Tournament.
Odom will be recognized among a distinguished class of basketball greats, including Duke's Jason Williams, North Carolina's James Worthy, NC State's Spud Webb and Syracuse's Derrick Coleman. The entire Legends Class of 2016 will be formally honored at a ceremony during the ACC basketball tournament in March.
"It is overwhelming to be named a legend, and I gladly share this honor with my family, friends and peers," Odom said. "From a coaching standpoint, it is a very proud moment."
