2013 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Day One Recap

The first day of the 2013 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Championship Round was filled with exciting matchups once again as the premier early-season college basketball tournament tipped off. After a day that included a record-tying performance, a big upset, and great crowds – the next two days should be even better.

In a game that was close in the first half and then dominated by California, the Golden Bears had five players in double figures to earn an 85-77 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks. David Kravish led California with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Michael Qualls had 21 points for Arkansas.

Syracuse was impressive in game two as they came out strong in the second half against Minnesota after leading by just three at halftime. C.J. Fair led the Orange to a 75-67 victory with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Malik Smith and Andre Hollins finished with 16 and 14 points for the Gophers, respectively.

In what was by far the loudest game of the day at the Lahaina Civic Center, game four featured a great matchup down to the final minute between Dayton and Gonzaga. In the end, the Dayton Flyers prevailed 84-79 following a 56-point second half effort after being down 11 at halftime. Jordan Sibert led the Flyers with 23 points while the Bulldogs' Kevin Pangos was the game's top scorer with 27 points including 13-14 from the free throw line.
